There are lots of tall and old trees on our property. Occasionally we have to take one down because it’s dead or a danger to the house. The tree people will cut the trunk into 2 feet logs for me to split. Quite a while ago I did it all by hand with a 12 lbs splitting maul, but now I use a wedge and 8 lbs mallet to break the log in half and then finish it using a hydraulic splitter. The original firewood storage was very basic, but since then I have designed and built two nice woodsheds.
